Ways you can make a difference

Volunteers are vital to the Joint Veterans Honors Command. We offer diverse roles, with or without prior military experience. Ceremonial tasks include flag folding, rifle salutes (with safety training provided), Taps bugling, pallbearing, and honor guard escorts. Support roles involve uniform maintenance, equipment transport, ceremony setup, and coordinating with funeral homes. Administrative volunteers handle phone calls, emails, paperwork, and social media. Event volunteers assist with fundraising, outreach, and public demonstrations. Additionally, family support volunteers provide emotional comfort to grieving families. There's a place for everyone with a respectful heart and willingness to learn.

Valuable skills and qualities

While all are welcome, specific skills enhance our mission. Military experience, especially with ceremonial protocols or rifle drill, is highly valued. Musical talent, particularly playing Taps, is a cherished gift. Public speaking or chaplain experience can offer immense comfort. Event coordination, logistics, or transportation skills keep operations smooth, and administrative talents like phone etiquette or social media management are always needed. Above all, reliability, respect, compassion, and humility are essential. Punctuality, a steady hand, and a heart that serves without seeking recognition define our most valued volunteers.

The profound rewards of service

Volunteering with the Joint Veterans Honors Command offers a unique chance to honor those who served our nation at the most sacred time of their lives. The greatest reward is knowing you made a profound difference when it mattered most. Whether folding a flag for a grieving widow or participating in a rifle salute, you experience an indescribable sense of purpose. Our volunteers find connection and brotherhood, often discovering personal healing. Every service is a life honored, a family comforted, and a legacy preserved. This feeling of being truly needed and truly useful is the greatest benefit.

"Volunteering with JVHC gave me a sense of purpose I hadn't felt in years. Honoring our veterans is truly a privilege."
